James was born in Kerens, Texas on March 14, 1943. James accepted Christ into his life at an early age. He was one of fifteen siblings. He graduated from Kerens High School. He pursued his undergraduate at Paul Quinn College cultivating with a degree in Bachelor of Science. He further pursued his academics by obtaining his Master of Science at Baylor University and Texas A&M at Commerce University. In addition, he obtained Mid-Management and Superintendent credentials.
James was called into active duty during the Vietnam War, where he served tours and received the Army Commendation Medal, two Bronze Stars, First Oak Leaf Clusters to the Purple Heart, among others. He was honorably discharged from the Army as Sergeant E5. James gave to his country and continued to give as a donor.
James continued his lifelong passion of teaching and helping others after his military career. His educational career progressed as a classroom teacher, multisport coach, assistant principal at Krueger, Madison, & Winston Churchill, principal at Ed White and college professor at St. Phillips.
James’ other passion was spending time with family and he enjoyed gardening as a hobby. He was an attentive father in his son’s lives, giving guidance and praise. He was blessed with three grandchildren that he loved and cherished.
James will be sadly missed by his wife of 50 years, Audrey F Washington and his two sons: Aubrey D Washington (wife: Charlettee); Jason D Washington (wife: Lacey); three grandchildren: Trinity, Jaxson, & Jayla Washington.
James will be remembered by his siblings: Christine, Ross, JT, John, Vernon (Pete), Ivory, Nathaniel, Annie, and Lewis. He will be forever missed by his extended family and friends.
James was predeceased by parents Lillie Mae and Prezell Washington and siblings: Lillie B, Herbert, Rayfield, LB, and David Lee.
