James Kahle (Jim) Monroe peacefully passed away on December 31, 2023, in San Antonio, Texas. He was born September 22, 1934 in Austin, Texas to Maurine Edgar Monroe and Jim Monroe. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Deborah Joan Monroe; son, John Monroe; daughter, Barbara Monroe Cantrell; son-in-law, John Cantrell; and five grandchildren, Joseph Cantrell, Jamie Cantrell, Juliette Cantrell, Jonathan Cantrell and Lindsay Monroe.
Jim attended elementary school in San Antonio, then he and his family moved to Rosenthal, Texas. After high school, he attended Tarleton College for one year then served three years in the army. After returning from serving in the military he graduated from the University of Houston with a BBA. He spent his working life as a manufacturer's representative for food service equipment. Upon retirement, his greatest passion was researching genealogy of the Munro descendants. He was actively involved in the Clan Munro with several trips to Scotland to visit ancestors who still occupy the Munro Castle.
Jim will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
A visitation for James will be held Thursday, January 18, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX 78218. Following the visitation will be a graveside service from 2:15 PM to 2:45 PM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209.
