Jack was born on June 16, 1937 in Green Valley, Denton County, Texas to William Herschel Dean and Juanita Day Dean. He grew up in Fort Worth and graduated from Diamond Hill High School. He married Janie Lee Hill on December 20, 1955 and join the Texas Department of Public Safety in 1960.
Jack served as a Texas Highway Patrolman in Pecos and Tyler before promoting to Texas Ranger in 1970. He was stationed in McAllen, Waco and San Antonio throughout his Ranger service, retiring in 1993 after serving 15 years as the Captain of Company “D”.
From 1994 to 2004, Jack served as the United States Marshal for the Western District of Texas – San Antonio. He was an original founding member of the Texas Ranger Association Foundation (TRAF) and a current board member of TRAF - HQ Company. Jack also served on the Leon Valley City Council.
He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Jerry Dean (Deb).
He is survived by his wife Janie, sister Hershey Grace, sons: Kyle Dean (Carol) and Cody Dean (Laura); daughter Kelly Smith (Dennis), and grandson Jackson Dean.
Jack instructed that no memorial service be conducted at this time. Instead, he requested a joint graveside service at the Texas State Cemetery after the passing of his wife, Janie.
