Ida I. Montgomery

Ida was born in Gatun, Panama on November 5th, 1925 to Alexander Nathaniel Bonnick and Ruthann Delilah Atkinson Bonnick. After graduating second in her class, Ida worked at the Canal Zone Commissary as a bookkeeper, quickly moving up for her abilities with sums. Ida also became well-known for her voice as she sang popular tunes at events and venues throughout the country with several bands and the Gatun Glee Galaxy.

Ida loved to laugh, eat, travel, dance and spend time with friends and family. Ida was well-known at St. Anthony's mass held at the Dodd Field Chapel on Fort Sam Houston, where she endeared herself to the congregation at her Catholic mass as well as the attendees of the preceding Protestant service. Ida's kind and loving spirit was complemented by her character as a fierce friend and champion for those in need. Her loving spirit was balanced by her great expectations. She had a sharp mind and wasn't afraid to use it.

Ida met her husband Curtis Robert Montgomery while on vacation in Buffalo, New York. Ida was blessed with three daughters: Betty Alicia Montgomery, Grace Montgomery Faulkner married to Mark Faulkner, and Ruth Montgomery-Andersen married to Steen Montgomery-Andersen. Ida will be lovingly remembered by her sisters Ruthann Rebecca Allen and Blanche Betty Henderson. Ida's grandchildren include Stephan Montgomery-Andersen married to Neeka Mottahedeh, Alexander Montgomery-Andersen married to Madelaine Gordon Graadahl, Amanda Faulkner, and Curtis Faulkner. Ida was also blessed with five great-grandchildren: Milu, Edwin Alexander, Paul Aaron, Mehdi, and Maya. She was preceded in death by her parents Ruthann Delilah and Alexander Nathaniel; her husband, Curtis; and her siblings Alfred Alexander Bonnick, Alice Adassa Bonnick, Norman Nathaniel Bonnick, Lester Lopez Bonnick, and David Donald Bonnick.

Ida was a beacon of light, love, and laughter. She will be dearly missed but never forgotten. We would like to thank Austin Hospice for assisting us in making her final days as peaceful as possible.
