It is with infinite love that we celebrate the life and passing of Hermilo “Steve” Cruz. Steve is survived by wife, Leticia Menchaca Cruz, children Stephanie Marie Leon, Christopher Steven Cruz, Brandon Steven Cruz, and Christian Nate Cruz, grandchildren Serena Leon, Hannah Lawson Cruz, Alicia Cruz, and Matthew Cruz. He is survived by parents Hermilo Cruz and Mary Cruz, brothers Carlos Cruz, Abel Cruz, and Ernest Cruz as well as countless nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
To sum up his life of 63 years, is to compare him to St. Joseph the worker and foster-father of Jesus. St. Joseph knew God’s plan for the salvation of humankind and humbly accepted and walked in SERVICE and LOVE with Jesus Christ and taught Him what it meant to work hard not for the benefit of himself, but for others.
For 40+ years Steve worked his way up as a business professional within a company that would provide life-long friends for years to come. It was his hard work, kindness, and determination to support his family and friends that motivated him to constantly give without receiving anything in return. At the early age of 16 years, Steve enlisted in the Army in order to support his family. His legacy lives on within his son’s Brandon and Christian Cruz, who earned associate, bachelor, and master’s degrees by the virtue of his time in the military.
Steve was a selfless man with a heart of gold and a love that will transcend lifetimes. He has four biological children but was a “father-figure” to hundreds of people. It was his love for giving that led him to be more than just “Mr. Cruz.” He was a husband, father, grandfather, son, grandson, brother, nephew, godfather, and even “Coach Steve”. You could find him coaching one of his children’s many sports teams or rooting for them on the bench. He was a proud San Antonio Spurs, Dallas Cowboys, and Houston Astros fan. Steve lived a beautiful Christ-centered life, filled with love, family, and many, many memories.
