Harvey C. Epley was born on April 20, 1928, to Harvey Benjamin Epley and Robbie Lee Woods in Forest City, North Carolina. He passed away on February 8, 2014, at the age of 85. He attended the Universities of Tennessee and Illinois before entering the European campaign in the Army. He went to work as a stone cutter in Spindale, NC where he worked until he enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean War. He honorably served his country for a total of 44 years. He served in Japan, Okinawa, Korea, Tennessee (Sewart AFB), Colorado (US Air Force Academy), Germany, New Mexico (Holliman AFB) and Texas (Brooks AFB). He was a Civil Servant and worked at the VA Hospital (San Antonio) and then transferred to DOD and served at Randolph, Kelly and Brooks AFB, San Antonio, TX as a Supervisor of the Engineer Management Information Service.
Harvey’s greatest joy in life was his wife Mary Ruth Hawkins, whom he married on February 17, 1976 in the Mesa Arizona Temple. They have 1 adopted daughter, Rebecca Epley Aultman of Kyle, TX; 2 stepsons, Benny Ray and Larry Wayne McGehee of Eufaula, Ok; and two step daughters, Mary L. Fisher of Kansas City, KS and Lydia L. Huff of Universal City, TX. He also has 11 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren that have survived him. His grandson, Michael Aultman; his brother Gary Epley; and his first wife, Alma Edith Dotson (27 years), as well as his parents, preceded him in death.
The family will receive visitors at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 13201 Forum Rd, Universal City, TX 78148 on Saturday, February 15, 2014 between the hours of 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. The Memorial Service will be held at the same location at 11:00 a.m. with graveside services immediately following at Sunset Memorial Park, 1701 Austin Hwy, San Antonio, TX.
