Harrison Lee (“Hop”) Shelton, age 79, passed away May 18, 2020 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born in Pemberton, West Virginia to Albiom and Virginia Shelton. From there, the family moved to Helen, WV, where Hop met Lynda, his lifelong friend and future wife.
Hop proudly served in the U.S. Army, including two tours of duty in Viet Nam, until his retirement after 21 years of service. Subsequently, he served for another 20 years with the Veterans Administration hospital system. He was an avid angler, but his greatest joy was spending time with his wife and family, especially his granddaughters. He will be remembered and missed as that rare combination of no-nonsense demeanor and gentleness.
Mr. Shelton is preceded in death by his six siblings: Bev, Connie, Danny, Doris, Jim, and Sonia. He is the last of the siblings to pass away.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Lynda Shelton; one son, Rob Shelton and wife Kathleen; two granddaughters, Emily Jiang and husband Josh, and Erica Ross and husband Jack; his longtime furry companion Gerald; and many other relatives.
The private funeral service will be Friday, May 22, 2020 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. The private burial service will be Saturday, May 23, 2020 at the Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
