Gregory Alex Alford passed to glory on January 30, 2018 in San Antonio, TX. He was born on December 6, 1949 to Ira Alex Alford and Eddie Pearl Seal in Franklinton, Louisiana. He attended elementary school in New Orleans, Covington and Baton Rouge, his middle school years in Baton Rouge and Little Rock, Arkansas. High school times in Little Rock and Covington, Louisiana where he graduated. After high school he was married to his high school sweetheart, Susan Potter until 1972 and in 1968 they had their son, Scott Alford. Greg attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana, home of the Ragin’ Cajuns for 2 years. Then he entered the United States Navy in 1972 and was honorably discharged in 1980 as First Class Petty Officer and has always been proud to be a veteran. His last duty station was in San Antonio, TX with the Armed Force Police Associated with the SAPD. In March 1980, he started working for CPS Energy as a Control Room Operator and retired with 26 years of service. In March 1986 he met Judith Fritz of San Antonio and married her in March of 1988 to the present. In 1994 Greg and Judith purchased a second home (Cajun House on the Lake) in Louisiana next to his parents. He spent many years living back and forth between his two homes helping take care of his father and mother. Greg was a lover of many things; football, boating, water skiing, swimming, fishing, camping, barbequing to name a few. If it was outdoors he enjoyed it, even just piddling around with his dad and brothers. He enjoyed being with family and sharing Mardi Gras, reunions, Rock & Roll, and Cajun music.
Greg was preceded in death by his father, Ira Alex Alford in 2013. He is survived by his wife, Judith; his mother, Eddie Pearl; son, Scott and his wife, Lisa; three grandkids, Caroline, Burke, and Betty; two brothers, Jeffry and his wife, Duane, Todd and his wife, Terri; and numerous family members and friends.
Greg enjoyed “enjoying” and being from Cajun Country, so one of his favorite sayings was “Laissez Le Bon Temps Rouler” meaning “Let the Good Times Roll.” So Bon Voyage and Happy Landing, you brought joy and will be missed.
Visitation will be on Friday, February 9th from 5-8 pm at Sunset Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be on Saturday, February 10th at 2:00 pm at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Pallbearers are Scott Alford, Burke Alford, Jeff Alford, Todd Alford, Jim Franklin, Richard Larzelere, Kasper Anthony Fritz, and Honorary Pallbearer, Rudy Hernandez.
