Gloria was the middle daughter born to Manuel and Margarita Moreno in San Antonio, TX, on July 18, 1928. Gloria attended Burnett Elementary, Page Middle School, and graduated from Tech High School in 1946. She attended Draughon’s Business College and was later employed by Southwestern Bell.
When Gloria’s first marriage ended in divorce after 7 years, she moved to Galveston with her young son and daughter. Her father, a tailor, got her a job at E.S. Levy Company, an upscale Galveston department store, working as an assistant to a buyer. She married Joe Anderson, in Galveston, TX, and she had another daughter. She later honed her secretarial skills working at UT’s School of Nursing administering tests to nurses. Gloria took immense pride in her position as Executive Secretary to Galveston’s Chief of Police and later its City Manager. She retired at 85 years of age after many years of working in the title business.
Gloria is preceded in death by her parents Manuel and Margarita Moreno, sisters Sylvia Alaniz and Carmen Cadena. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Joe Anderson, her son Michael O’Con, her daughter Roslyn Even, and husband Jim, her grandchildren, Kyle Even and Kimberly Valentine, and husband Roshaun, and great-grand daughter, Lyra. Daughter, Linda Allen and husband, Scott, her stepson Michael Anderson, and her devoted feline companion Christi. Gloria is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who she loved as if they were her own.
Gloria lived a very full life as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, friend, and secretary. She took pride in her lengthy employment and had lots of stories to share about her experiences. Gloria loved traveling with her family and especially enjoyed the trips to Mexico with her sisters and their husbands. During her retirement, Gloria loved spending time with family and friends, reading, eating out, watching Netflix and she particularly enjoyed the telenovelas.
The family of Gloria wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Andrew West, and the nursing staff at Northeast Rehabilitation and Healthcare for their compassionate care.
Our mother was a caring and generous individual who greeted everyone with a smile. She had a strong work ethics and a “soft spot” for homeless animals. The memories we have of her will always be in our hearts.
While Gloria’s family grieves her loss, we are choosing to remember Gloria in a way that honors her spirit. A celebration of Gloria’s life will be held on Friday, October 20, 2023, at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home at 6321 Bandera Road, San Antonio, TX, 78238. The visitation starts at 10:00AM and a service officiated by Pastor Rick Hudson is at 11:00AM.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the American Heart Association or an animal welfare group.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.SunsetNWFuneralHome.com for the Anderson family.
