Gilbert E. Munoz of San Antonio, TX, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday July 22, 2016 at the Audie L. Murphy Memorial VA Hospital and is now resting in the arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Gilbert was the fourth child of thirteen born to Florentino M. and Carmen K. Munoz who both preceded him. He is now reunited with them and his brothers and sisters: Richard K. Munoz, Ralph Munoz, Lydia Reynosa, Deborah Sliskey and Lisa Munoz. Gilbert was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School, class of 1967; and proudly served our country in the U S Navy aboard the USS Hancock during the Vietnam era. He is survived by his son, Gilbert E. Munoz Jr. (Christine) of Colorado; three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; his brother, Michael K. Munoz and sisters, Gloria (Higinio) Flores; Rosalinda (Michael) Irion; Mary Carmen (Jesse) Tovar; Norma Jean Munoz; Cynthia (Rick) Burton and Theresa (Ivan) Boyer of Virginia. Gilbert is also survived by twenty-two nieces and nephews; nineteen great-nieces and nephews; cousins and countless friends. Gilbert was loved and cherished by all his family and will be greatly missed. He will live in our hearts forever. Our family offers our thanks and gratitude for the loving, compassionate and faithful care given Gilbert by Dr. Laura Chiodo of the Audie Murphy VA Memorial Hospital over the past 14 years. We are also very thankful and grateful to the VA Hospital Community Living Center (CLC) Hospice care staff. Our thanks and appreciation also goes to The Haven House Group Home where Gilbert resided for the last two years. Visitation will be held at Roy Akers Funeral Home on Thursday, July 28, 2016 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm with Rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm. Procession will depart from the funeral home on Friday, July 29, 2016 at 9:30 am for a 10:00 am Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Little Flower. Interment will follow at San Fernando Cemetery #3.
