Gilbert Garcia graduated near the top of his class at Nixon High School in Laredo, TX, and later earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from The University of Texas at Austin, while being one of only 200 Latino students attending the University at the time. After graduating from The University of Texas in 1972, Gilbert worked as an auditor for the State Comptroller Office for more than 40 years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Deborah Garcia, his daughter, Christina Sanchez and husband Bradley Sanchez, and his sons Gilbert M. Garcia and wife Diana, James Garcia, and John Garcia and wife Sharol, his sister, Gloria Valdez. Gilbert is also survived by his grandchildren Fyana Minter, Jake Minter, and Julian Garcia.
The Garcia Family will welcome friends on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at Funeraria del Angel Roy Akers beginning at 6:00 p.m. The Recitation of The Holy Rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m. On Thursday, December 19, the Requiem Mass will be held at St. Matthew Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m., with interment to follow at San Fernando III.
