Gilbert was born on January 18, 1947 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Guadalupe and Lupe Rangel Davila. He attended Roy Miller High School in Corpus Christi and continued his education receiving his Bachelors degree at Corpus Christi State University. He was awarded an honorary Doctorate by Mid-America Christian University, Moore, Oklahoma. This was an honor and distinction that brought him joy because of his lifelong love for the Church of God movement, and his unyielding service.
He served nearly 18 years as Senior Pastor at Corpus Christi Christian Outreach where he impacted many people and mentored many church leaders. In the early 1990’s he and his wife Melba moved to Anderson, Indiana where Gilbert served as the North American Regional Director for the Church of God. He then worked as an International Representative for Promise Keepers in 1995. He began serving as Senior Lead Pastor at Community Bible Fellowship in Austin, Texas from 1999 up to the date of his passing. In addition, since 1995 Rev. Davila was the speaker for CBH “Hermandad Cristiana”, broadcast by 98 stations in 20 countries including Central and South America, Cuba, Spain, and the Hispanic community of the United States.
Gilbert is survived by his wife of 55 years, Melba Davila; four children and their spouses, Ed (Olga) Davila, Cindy (Ross) Magsig, Ronn Davila, and Steve (Kristin) Davila; eight grandsons, three granddaughters; four great-grandsons and four great-granddaughters; and one brother, Arthur Davila and one sister, Yolanda (Adan) Flores.
A service of celebration for the life and ministry of Rev. Dr. Gilbert R. Davila is scheduled for Saturday, February 27, 2021 at Community Bible Fellowship in Austin, Texas at 1:00pm CST. Due to capacity restrictions, the service will be streamed live online, and archived for those who are unable to attend in person. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made through Community Bible Fellowship at www.austincbf.org/giving.
