Frank was born August 23, 1933 to Harry Haegelin and Sibyl Campbell in Lebanon, MO. Frank graduated from Brackenridge High School. He attended college for two years in San Antonio. Frank served two years in the Army in Limestone, Maine. His time in Maine and summer deployments on Cape Cod started Frank’s love for the east coast, especially Maine. He loved to share his many great stories from his time in the Army.
Upon completion of his service, Frank returned to San Antonio and went on to graduate from Trinity University. Frank started a long successful career at City Public Service in Personnel. He retired in 1988 as Manager of facility maintenance, construction and security.
Frank met his beloved wife Clair Sheets in 1960 and they eloped after 3 months. They were married for 50 years. Frank and Clair had 5 children; Sherrie Haegelin, Tracy Hilderbran (husband Harvey), Michele Keller, Holly Haegelin and Frank Haegelin Jr.
Frank had many hobbies in his life. He was avid fisherman which started during his youth in Missouri. He especially enjoyed fishing with his son Frank Jr. at Bennet Springs, Missouri. Frank and Clair would take Frank Jr. to Bennett Springs every spring break to fish regardless if the temperature was 68 or 25. Frank was a great poker player. He had a weekly game he would play in and prided himself in his win streaks. He was also in many bowling leagues and loved to read. Frank was passionate about cooking. All meals had a minimum of 3 sides with about 30% of his meals including his favorite boiled shrimp. Frank was a member of the San Antonio Conservation Society. He and Clair had a non-profit booth at NIOSA for 41 years. Frank and Clair enjoyed many wonderful trips to Santa Fe and Las Vegas. Frank loved spending time with his family. He was a wonderful PoPo to his grandchildren.
Frank was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Sibyl Haegelin, wife Clair, daughters Sherrie and infant daughter Holly. Frank is survived by his brother Gordon, his daughters Tracy Hilderbran, Michele Keller, and son Frank Haegelin Jr., grandchildren Haley, Callie, Piper, Zachary, Luke, Jaxon and Delan and many nieces, nephews and cousins
We would like to thank his brother Gordon, his cousin Ginny Kerr and his best friend Jerry Kinney, who faithfully visited him every week leaving him with a smile. We would also like to thank Cynthia Limon, his loving care giver that was his biggest advocate. She was his caregiver for over 2 years and made each and every day brighter for him. They spent endless hours going to activities and lunches. They spent hundreds of hours listening to audio books. Frank became very close to Cindy and loved her like a daughter.
Initially Frank was not so fond of Juniper Village (after having to leave his home of 60 years), however after getting to know almost all the staff, how many kids they had, where they were from and getting to know many wonderful friends; Juniper became home. Thank you to the Juniper staff and his many friends at Juniper Village who brought some much joy and happiness in the last 2.5 years.
