Elizabeth M. King

Elizabeth Marie (Wilks) King was born on April 30, 1928 to Hugo & Elizabeth (Franze) Wilks in Goliad, Texas. There she grew up on a farm with her two brothers, Hugo Wilks, Jr., and Wilfred Wilks (deceased). When they were teenages they moved to San Antonio. Elizabeth went to Burbank High and enjoyed their pep squad called the "Orange Jackets"

J.D. King had served in the Army for 4 years (a Purple Heart recipient) and had come home to find that his parents had moved next door to the Wilks family. She became the girl next door.

After a while of dating, they were married on May 30, 1946. They moved into a house on Gladstone. Then in 1956 they moved to a newly built house on Hatcher Street. They had three children; Michael King, Linda (King) Ackerman, and Carolyn (King, Schoenert) Faught. As a family they liked to camp, hunt, fish, and go to drive-in movies. They also loved to go dancing.

Elizabeth loved animals, chickens, cows, horses, dogs, as well as stray cats. Anytime the neighbor kids, or friends needed a place to stay, they would stay at our home. She had a very sweet and generous heart.

They were married for 46 years. When our dad died in 1991, Mom remained in the house for another 30 years. She never complained about anything, and always saw the best in everyone.

She enjoyed every day. She loved her hot tea in the mornings, loved to feed her birds outside, and picking up sticks out of the yard. In the fall, she would pick up her pecans that fell from the trees. Her favorite programs were "Gunsmoke" and" Andy Griffith". In the 60's I remember she, Aunt Fay Dell, and Aunt Kathleen loved to watch "General Hospital" and would talk about it while giving each other a home perm. She loved telling her childhood stories; how her family used to farm, raise cows, chickens, and turkeys.

She was a 75 year member of the Hermann Son Lodge. She was a wife, a mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and Homemaker. She made our house a safe place to come to. When we were growing up and I had something really upsetting me, she would say

"Just let it go, and go on". Every time I hear "Let It Go" from the Disney movie "Frozen" I will think of her.

She had the best "life long" neighbors and family. They would always watch out for and keep an eye on her, many times, taking her to the store or do repairs for her. We are so grateful and fortunate to have had them in our lives.

Elizabeth passed away peacefully on Oct. 29, 2022. We thank Sodolis in Garden Ridge, and Country Care in La Vernia for all of the care and love that they provided in her later years.

She is survived by: Her children: Michael King (wife Patti), Linda (King) Ackerman, Carolyn (King, Schoenert) Faught (husband Gary), Grandchildren: Laura King, Sherri Schoenert, Julie (King) Schultze (husband Scott), Stephen Schoenert (Michlle Bunn), Kristin Benitz. Great Grandchildren: Kyle Collins (wife Allie), Lani Adair, Jacob Immel, Cayden Schultze, Sarah Benitz, Colton Benitz. Brother: Hugo Wilks, Jr. (wife FayDell Wilks). She also leaves behind many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mom, we love you and we will miss you every day until we can hug you in Heaven!

A visitation for Elizabeth will be held Monday, November 7, 2022 at 8:00 AM at Funeraria Del Angel Roy Akers, 515 North Main Ave, San Antonio, Texas 78205. A funeral service will occur Monday, November 7, 2022 at 10:00 AM, 515 North Main Ave, San Antonio, Texas 78205. A graveside service will occur Monday, November 7, 2022 at Poteet Cemetery, 1735 Rutledge Rd, Poteet, Texas 78065.
