Elaine Joyce DeLong

Elaine Joyce DeLong Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to all, passed into glory July 7, 2010 at her home in San Antonio. Elaine was survived by her husband of 63 years, Jack M. DeLong; daughter Gayle DeLong Powne & husband Ron; and son Richard K. Delong & wife Judy; along with 4 grandchildren Tom DeLong & wife Nicole, Chris DeLong & wife Kelly,, Cassie Powne Hamelman & husband BJ, Carly Powne; and 3 great grandsons Will Hamelman, Clayton DeLong, Wesley Hamelman; and a host of other relatives and friends. Born in Blue Earth, Minnesota on October 3, 1926 she lived a long and loving life in San Antonio. She celebrated her 63rd anniversary with Jack on July 2nd. Elaine was a school nurse at multiple schools for the San Antonio Independent School District for 22 years. As an active member of our community, she belonged to Hope Presbyterian, John Calvin Presbyterian Church, San Antonio Airport Ambassadors, and North Star Mall – Mall Walkers.

The family will receive visitors from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 12 at Sunset Funeral Home. A celebration of Elaine’s life will be held at John Calvin Presbyterian Church at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 13 with a reception to follow at the Church Hall. Elaine will be laid to rest at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in a private service.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked donations be made in memory to John Calvin Presbyterian Church. Elaine will be missed by her family and many personal friends.
