Dorothy Hissner Spencer, beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother died peacefully on May 14, 2002, at the age of 89. She was born in Little Rock, Arkansas to Mary and Dan W. Hissner. The family moved to San Antonio when Dorothy was a young girl. She graduated from Main Avenue High School and attended Incarnate Word College. In 1931, Dorothy married Milton Vance Spencer and they had one daughter, Mary Maidie Vance Spencer Liebmann. Dorothy worked as Director of Volunteers at the Santa Rosa Children's Hospital for 19 years. Her infectious enthusiasm and ability to inspire and motivate others succeeded in building the Auxiliary from an idea to the vital organization that it has become. Dorothy was active in many community services and served on the boards of the Santa Rosa Children's Hospital Foundation, American Red Cross and Battle of Flowers Association. She served as President of the Junior League of San Antonio and was a member of The Assembly. She was a member of St. Mark's Episicopal Church for over 60 years. Dorothy was preceded in death by her brother, Dan W. Hissner, Jr., and her niece, Gayle Hissner Perron. She is survived by her daughter, two grandsons, Robert Emory Rigney, Jr., and his wife, Elizabeth and their children, Nathan and Julia of Houston; M. Spencer Rigney and his wife, Sissy and their three daughters, Sara, Meredith and Mallory of San Antonio; a sister-in-law, Welda Hissner and a nephew, Leon F. Perron, Jr., and two great nieces, Tracy Perron Kirby and her husband, Dan and Patricia Perron Bowen and her husband, Tad. The family extends special thanks to Dorothy's dear friend and caregiver, Ellie Munoz and to the staff at the Forum Assisted Living Home.
