Arnold "Dodge" Barton, a cherished husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 81. Born in Goliad, Texas, on May 20, 1943, Dodge grew up to become a man of great humor, friendliness, and love, touching the lives of everyone he met.
Dodge was a devoted family man, deeply loved by his wife of 49 years, Jeanne Elizabeth Barton, and their children, Christopher Dodge Barton and Sarah Elizabeth Barton, as well as his daughter-in-law, Andrea Marie Barton. His brother, Terry Barton, sister-in-law, Carol Barton, his niece, Marlo Barton, along with his nephews Jerry Helbling and wife Laura, Stephen Helbling, and Troy Helbling, and life-long friends, Walt Friedeck, and Art Shanklin will fondly remember Dodge for his unwavering support and infectious laughter.
His pursuit of knowledge led him to earn an Associate's Degree in Science, a testament to his belief in the value of education and the power of an inquisitive mind. Dodge's professional life was marked by his commitment to the principles of Freemasonry. As a Master Mason and past Worshipful Master at Highland Hills Lodge, he dedicated himself to the service of others, embodying the fraternity's values of brotherly love, relief, and truth.
Dodge's passions were manifold, but he was particularly known for his love of golf, which he played with the same integrity and sportsmanship that he applied to all areas of his life. His other passions included the Dallas Cowboys and UT Longhorns football. His involvement with Masonry went beyond the lodge; it was a part of his daily life, as he lived out its teachings in his interactions with friends, family, and even strangers. Dodge was a dog lover whose heart was always open to the joy and companionship that his furry friends provided.
To say that Dodge was the best husband and father would be an understatement. His dedication to his family was unparalleled, and his ability to be a friend to all was nothing short of remarkable. Those who knew him will remember his funny anecdotes, his welcoming smile, and his loving disposition that never failed to make others feel at home.
In the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson, "To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children... to leave the world a bit better... to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded." Dodge's life was the epitome of this sentiment, as he left an indelible mark on the hearts of those he encountered.
Arnold "Dodge" Barton's legacy is not just in the memories he leaves behind, but in the laughter, kindness, and love that will continue to ripple through the lives of those who were privileged to know him. His unwavering spirit and joy for life will be sorely missed, but the stories of his friendly banter, his love for his family, and his commitment to making the world a better place will be told for generations to come.
As we say goodbye to Dodge, we take solace in the knowledge that his was a life well-lived, full of moments that brought happiness to others. He may have departed from this world, but his legacy of love and laughter will forever remain with us.
