David De La Cruz Rocha

David D. Rocha, born on July 2, 1977, in San Antonio, TX was called to be with The Lord on October 9, 2021 at the age of 44 years. He is preceded in death by his father, Elias S. Rocha Sr., brother Josue “Joshua” D. Rocha, sister-in-law, Lorrie Rocha, uncles, Noe Rocha and Tomas Ruiz. He is survived by his children Serena Rocha and Ryan Martinez (Jasmine); grandchildren Mavis and Mason; mother, Mrs. Benita D. Rocha; siblings, Elias D. Rocha Jr., Gabriel D. Rocha, Melinda E. Smith (Patrick), and Maricela D. Rocha; nieces and nephews, Anthony, Katherine, Sarah, Gabriel Jr., Tommy, Ashley, Matthew; grandniece, Avalon; aunts, Mary Ann Leal (Art), Beatriz Gomez, Maria Mendoza (Guadalupe), Luz Mora (Tony), Juanita Ruiz and Gloria Rocha, and numerous cousins and friends.

David shared his childhood with five siblings and loved to play outside, ride his bike in the neighborhood, and play basketball. When David was very young, his dad told him that the cows they saw in a field were where burgers came from and said, “yum yum.” After that, David would adorably call cows “yum yums.” He was such a cute child with a head full of hair and chubby cheeks. He loved to watch He-Man, Transformers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Snoopy was one of his favorite characters since he was little.

As David started to grow older, it became very apparent how much he looked just like his dad, often getting mistaken for him, which he loved. David had an appreciation for cars and purchased a 1972 Chevelle as a teenager. He had it painted candy apple red with a mural of Judas Priest’s Painkiller album cover on the hood. It was his pride and joy and he entered it into several car shows and won multiple trophies.

David was lucky enough to become a father to Ryan and Serena and did a wonderful job. He was an amazing father and made sure his children knew how much love he had for them through his actions, guidance, and continuous support. David enjoyed watching and attending wrestling, UFC, and other sporting events with his kids. He always made sure they spent time with the rest of the family and understood the importance of quality time together. David was a Dallas Cowboys fan and Ryan a Houston Texans fan, which sparked a friendly rivalry between them during football season. David was blessed to see his son get married and find happiness. He experienced such joy when he was blessed with his two grandchildren, Mavis and Mason. His face would undeniably light up when he shared cherished moments with them. David loved spending time with Serena every chance he had by attending concerts, enjoying lazy days together, going to Traders Village, spending time with their dog Oreo, trying out new restaurants, and attending fun events together. He called her his ladybug since she was a baby and continued to affectionately do so as she grew up.

David was so full of kindness, love, and generosity. His welcoming demeanor made him approachable and easy to talk to. He loved to volunteer his time to help others, show kindness to strangers, and made himself available to friends and family in their times of need. David worked for CPS Energy for 19 years and made many friends during that time.

Family was always important to David, and he never missed an opportunity to spend time with them. David maintained several genuine friendships over the years with childhood friends, and with friends he made along the way. He was well liked, and his true character shone through his actions and love for others. He had a great sense of humor, dad jokes, and a memorable laugh that will be sorely missed.  

David always believed that there was importance in appreciating the simple things in life. He enjoyed singing karaoke, playing darts, watching UFC, going to Black’s BBQ, and watching shows and movies with family and friends.

David had a deep love for his fiancé, Amanda, and hoped to marry her someday. They loved spending time together enjoying one another’s company, attending family functions, and making special memories. He also loved her children, Michael, Ian, and Samuel. 

David was an incredible person with a caring, compassionate, and loving heart. He could make fun of you playfully in one moment, and show genuine care and love for you in the next. He has positively impacted so many people’s lives and left behind a wonderful legacy. We all love and miss you, David, and promise to keep your memory alive.

A visitation for David will be held Monday, October 25, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino Funeral Home, 226 Cupples Road, San Antonio, TX 78237. A rosary will occur at 7:00 PM. A mass of resurrection will occur Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Resurrection of the Lord, 7990 W Military Dr, San Antonio, TX 78227. An interment will follow at San Fernando Cemetery II, 746 Castroville Rd., San Antonio, TX 78237.
