It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Allen Miller at the age of 65 on September 24, 2023. Born in Louisville, Kentucky on November 1, 1957, David was a beloved husband to Rosie, father to Trae (Sarah), Robert (Maggie), and Rick (Valerie), and grandfather to Gage (Robert) and Alyssa (Robert).
He was preceded in death by his parents Bernie Ford Miller and Janet Louise Doddy, as well as his sister Nancy.
David served his country with honor as both an active duty and reserve United States Marine for a total of 26 years. During his decorated career, he achieved the rank of sergeant major and completed two deployments to Iraq.
In addition to his military service, David was also a highly skilled facilities professional. He worked as a plumber, electrician, and physical plant supervisor at St. Mary’s University for 19 years before transitioning to the Director of Facilities role at the Marine Military Academy, where he served for 23 years with dedication and expertise.
David will always be remembered as an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing with friends and family. He also cherished traveling the world with his beloved wife Rosie. David had a special talent for storytelling and was known for sharing a cold drink and cigar with friends while talking about his family. He dearly loved his two grandchildren and would always find time to play games with them.
Due to the extraordinary expanse of David’s influence on those around him, two opportunities are available to celebrate his life. A memorial service will be held at the Colonel Phillip J. Yeckel Memorial Auditorium at the Marine Military Academy in Harlingen, Texas, on Friday, October 6, 2023, at 6:00 PM, followed by a reception at the Cadet Activity Center. Additionally, a visitation and vigil service will be held at Sunset Memorial Park and Funeral Home in San Antonio, Texas, on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, with visitation 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM and vigil at 7:00 PM. The Funeral Mass will take place at St. Pius X Catholic Church in San Antonio on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at 1:00 PM, followed by burial at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery's Shelter Number 2 at 2:15 PM.
