David leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 57 years, Marion P Hardin; daughters, Michelle Lynn Baker and husband Paul, Jacqueline Lee Martinez and husband Michael; five grandchildren, Sean Matthew Baker, Micaela Rose Valadez and husband Isaiah, James Michael Martinez, Izaia Michael Martinez and Josiah Michael Martinez; one brother, John Edward Hardin and wife Diana; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and good friends.
David meets in Heaven his parents, Garland and Estella Hardin and brothers, Roy Edward Hardin and William Eugene Hardin Sr.
David was a graduate of George W. Brackenridge High School and played football for the 1962 State Championship Eagles team. He was drafted by the United States Army and sent to Vietnam in August 1967. While in Vietnam, he was wounded in February 1968 and was awarded a Purple Heart for wounds received in action. He proudly served with the 11th Armored Cavalry Blackhorse Regiment. Upon returning from war, he went on to work for the United States Postal Service and retired on December 1, 2002, serving 35 years.
David enjoyed monthly breakfast meetings with his Brackenridge teammates and was a huge sports enthusiast. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his generosity, and the joy he found in making others happy. David had a great love for his family, especially his grandchildren, and he will be deeply missed.
A visitation for David will be held Thursday, June 9, 2022 from 9:30 AM to 10:00 AM with a memorial mass to follow from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 4411 Moana Dr, San Antonio, TX 78218. A committal service will occur Thursday, June 9, 2022 from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209.
