Cynthia was born to Jeffrey Williams and Mary Lena Boone on May 7, 1936 in Shreveport, Louisiana. She accepted Christ at an early age at Goodwill Baptist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana and continued to profess her love for Christ as a member of Emmanuel AME Church, San Antonio, Texas. While growing up in Shreveport, Cynthia worked in her family’s grocery store for several years after graduating from Booker T. Washington High School.
Cynthia later became a military wife when she met and married William E. Ruth. Living in one place for a long period of time became passé as she crisscrossed the United States and several countries, living in various cities - some multiple times - including two international cities. Panama was her favorite place to live.
Cynthia was a homemaker for many years. Although she had no formal training, Cynthia had a natural talent and gift of style which became very apparent to her family and friends. With minimum to no resources or effort she could take something very ordinary and create or redesign it into something quite extraordinary, or as she would say, “give it a wow effect.”
In 1986, Cynthia moved to San Antonio to be near her mother and sister. Soon after, she met her beloved friend and partner, Spurgeon Busby, who has been by her side for the past 31 years until she took her last breath on Friday, January 13, 2017.
Cynthia was an outstanding example of quiet strength with unyielding compassion for others. She was a loving mother and grandmother and has left a profound impact on her children and grandchildren. Her family and friends will remember her kind spirit, strong opinions, style, grace, and wonderful sense of humor.
Cynthia leaves to cherish her memory and further her legacy five children: Michael Williams, Yava Scott (Milton), Marcus Ruth (Grace), Carl Ruth (Sheila), and Tammika Williams (Maxwell); her sister, Gwendolyn Thomas (Roy James); her beloved friend and partner, Spurgeon Busby, Sr.; eight grandchildren: Gerald Williams, Marshawn Williams, Kirsten Scott, Kristian Ruth, Courtney Williams (Darius), Dariaus Ruth, Kameron Scott, and Kaela Scott; one great granddaughter: Jaliyah Williams and a host of beloved cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.
In addition to floral contributions, Donations may be made in her memory to Emmanuel AME Church, 1600 Semlinger Rd, San Antonio, TX 78220.
Arrangements under the direction of Sunset Funeral Home, San Antonio, TX.
