On April 24, 2021, Concepcion B. Cruz (known to all as “Connie”), born on August 15, 1935, devoted wife and mother, passed away. She was preceded in death by her wonderful husband, Raul Cruz and her sister Mary Herrera. She is survived by her loving daughter Diana Cruz-Zapata and son-in-law Gilbert Zapata, her sister Mary Alice Ramon, brothers and sisters-in-laws Teddy and Aurora Cruz, Roland and Norma Garcia, Mary Helen Garcia and many nieces and nephews.
At the age of 16, Connie began helping her parents financially by working part-time as a dental assistant, becoming a full-time dental assistant after graduating from high school. She was a member of the San Antonio Dental Assistants Society and worked in this position until she was 24 years old. Thereafter, she served her country as a civil servant for the United States Department of Defense and retired after 30 years of service. She was strong in her faith in the Lord and loved her family fiercely, often sacrificing to make life better for them. Having come from very humble beginnings, Connie was proud of all that she and Raul accomplished in their lifetime and was very grateful to God for the beautiful life she lived.
Diana would like to thank all who loved and prayed for her mom and would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Vitas Hospice for the loving and compassionate care and support they provided to both her mom and herself.
Services will be held on May 21, 2021, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, 4603 Manitou, San Antonio, TX 78228, with the Rosary beginning at 9:30 am and the mass immediately following at 10:00 am. The interment will be held at 1:15 pm at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, Committal Shelter #2, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Rd, San Antonio, TX 78209. Since there is a time gap between the end of the mass and the interment, there will not be a formal procession from the church to the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Diana asks that donations be made to the San Antonio Food Bank.
