Billy Joe Wood was born on November 30, 1934, in Pittsburg, Kansas, and received his wings to heaven, on August 19, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Ethyl Wood, 10 siblings, and his daughter, Carla Penton.
Joe is survived by his wife of 52 years, Margaret Wood, his brother, James Wood (Laquita), sisters: Evelyn Sarter (Andy) and Ethyl Steward, daughters: Anna Clymans (Mark) and Darla Pate (Ray), sons: Billy Wood (Debbie), Dean Wood (Dawn), Terry Wood (Tammy),& Claude Wood Penton (Michele), along with nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Billy Joe Wood, known to all as Joe, began his life the baby of 14 children. Worked with his Dad and brothers to learn carpentry and construction. In his early twenties, he enlisted in the USAF as an airplane mechanic. When he got out of the military, he spent the next 50 years, building and repairing houses, in the Joplin, Mo area. During this time, he was also a building Inspector in Webb City, Mo, and a volunteer Fireman and building Inspector in Aurora, Mo. Around 18 years ago, he made his permanent home in San Antonio. He enjoyed doing maintenance work at One Elm Place, and working with his son-in-law, Mark, in the A/C and Heating business, before his retirement in 2015. He worked hard his entire life, was a devoted member of Our Lady of Atonement Catholic Church, and survived 3 cancer surgeries. Joe was respected and loved by everyone he met. The world has lost a great man.
The Rosary will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at 7 pm, and mass on Friday, September 8, at 12 noon. Both will be held at Our Lady of Atonement Catholic Church at 15415 Red Robin Rd, San Antonio, TX 78255. Reception following in the courtyard.
