Arch was born to Archibald Gray Adams III and Alice Lucile Adams in Austin, Texas on July 7, 1944. He grew up in the Methodist church and was a faithful Christian. He graduated from Austin High School, Southwestern University, and St. Mary’s Law School. He was an Eagle Scout and used those skills throughout his lifetime. Arch was a well-known and respected San Antonio lawyer whose practice brought much fulfillment as he zealously represented his clients.
Since childhood, Buddy enjoyed storytelling and he came to employ uniquely singular and colorful elocution skills. Nobody could narrate a situation quite like he did. He loved a good joke and a well timed punch line. He was an intellectual and pursued an eclectic array of knowledge until the day he died .From weatherman, to historian, to handyman, he mastered impressive competency in many different categories. He was quite certain and not often in doubt about most of his opinions. He conquered Las Vegas as often as he could and enjoyed blackjack, poker, a good meal, a cigarette, and a good scotch. Arch acquired his share of art, antiques, and accolades, but it was his wife and daughter who were his measure of success and significance as a man. He was consistent, trustworthy, thoughtful to a fault, practical, responsible and generous. He was an honest lawyer, a loyal friend, a good man and a devoted father.
Arch was predeceased by his beloved wife Susan Howell Adams, and he is survived by his cherished daughter Bingham Adams Shelton (Tyler). He was Papa Arch to Mae Shelton and Holden Shelton. Arch is survived by his sister Alice McKeever (Kip) of Washington. Arch is also survived by his loyal friend Elizabeth “Sunny” Neely and several cousins.
Bingham and Tyler express their sincere love and appreciation to their families, the Howells, the O’Connells, and the Sheltons, along with so many friends who have shown so much compassion in this season of loss.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests gifts to St. Andrews Church, 722 Robinhood Pl., San Antonio, TX. 78209.
