Anita Anne Brown, 78, was reunited with the love of her life, Francis “Mickey” Brown in heaven on November 29, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering faith. Anita was born in New Bedford, Massachusetts on December 5, 1945, and was one of seven children of the late Jean and Viola (Bourgeois) Lequin.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Mickey, and her sisters Jeannette Struble, Lucille Lequin, and Jeanne Frates. Anita is survived by her siblings Pauline Antil, Gerard Lequin (Cathy), and Therese Breton (Richard), as well as her beloved daughters, Darlene Brown (fiancé Paul Neumann) and Renee Brown-Cheng (spouse Otto Cheng).
Anita met Mickey, her soulmate of 55 years, in Oahu, Hawaii. She had moved there from Massachusetts with two of her sisters to spend time with their brother, Jerry, a Marine, who was on leave. Divine intervention had Mickey stationed in Oahu with the Navy at the same time.
Their relationship began as a friendship and quickly blossomed into a lifelong love–the first spark ignited when she asked him for a ride to church. Their shared faith became the foundation of their connection, and weekly trips to Mass together deepened their bond. Before long, they were inseparable, pledging their lives to one another on October 5, 1968.
After Mickey completed his service in the Navy, they returned to Cape Cod, Massachusetts, to be closer to Anita’s family. It was there that they began building their own family. On November 4, 1976, they joyfully welcomed their first daughter, Darlene, through adoption from Seoul, Korea. Two years later, their family grew again with the arrival of their younger daughter, Renee, on Veterans Day, 1978.
For 25 years, Anita served faithfully at Frost Bank, where her colleagues knew her as a dependable friend and a source of encouragement. Her cheerful spirit and team-first mentality left an indelible mark on those she worked alongside.
Beyond her professional contributions, Anita was deeply committed to serving her community. As a volunteer with St. Vincent de Paul at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, she dedicated her servant heart to make a difference for others by putting her faith into action. Her trust in God was unwavering, providing her with strength and comfort and offering the same to those around her.
Anita was known for her infectious laughter, boundless generosity, and ability to see the good in everything and everyone. She faced life’s challenges with grace and optimism, inspiring all who were fortunate enough to know her.
She cherished the adventure of travel, the joy in meeting new people, and embraced every experience as an opportunity to learn, grow and share.
Funny, faith-filled, and selfless, Anita enriched the lives of family, friends and all she encountered.
Her family was her greatest joy, and she was the heart of their lives.
Simply stated, her love of family grounded us, and she was our light in all areas of darkness.
While we mourn for the significant loss of our mother, we also find comfort that she is restored and reunited with our father…and grateful to have had the privilege of their unconditional love.
Special thanks to Compassus’ Dr. Ben Getter, Stephanie Hill, Tanesha Flowers, Phil Johnson, Kirstie Thibodeaux, Lilly Viera and many others who lovingly cared for our mother when she needed and deserved it the most.
We welcome her friends and family Monday, December 9, 2024, from 5:00 p.m.–7:00 p.m. at Sunset North Funeral Home, 910 North Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, Texas.
Anita’s funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 4201 De Zavala Rd., San Antonio, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, she would be humbly honored to continue helping others through the selfless works provided by St. Vincent de Paul of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 16075 N. Evans Road, Selma, TX 78154.
