Ana M. Dame of San Antonio, TX, who stood in the face of lung cancer with grace for three years said goodbye on December 29, 2014. She was born on October 14, 1937 in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico to Mary Grace and Edgar Careras. With Spanish as her first language, her mother moved to Texas at the age of 5 where she mastered English. She excelled while attending many schools in different states as her parents followed work. After graduating from Miami High School, she enlisted in the United States Air Force where she met Air Force Master Sgt. William F. Dame, who she later married on November 16, 1957. After two years of service as a Radar Technician, she left the military ranks to raise her three sons while her husband was deployed to two wars. After her sons all entered high school, Ana returned to college to obtain a teaching certificate. As an educator in San Antonio Independent School District, Ana retired in the early 90s. Her last teaching role was at Breckenridge Elementary School, where she led a cutting edge computer lab for children with learning disabilities. Ana was an avid gardener, collector of antique bottles and depression glass, and a self-taught oil on canvas artist. She loved music, traveling and cooking. Although she claimed to be shy, there was never a time she met a stranger.
She was preceded in death by her Mother Mary Grace and Stepfather Raymond, and her brother Raymond. Ana leaves behind husband, William F. Dame; sons William Jr. & wife Martha, Daniel & partner Sam, and Richard; grandchildren, William III, Katherine, Alexa, Jason and Mishell; and great grandchildren, Alex, Violet, Mark, Serenitte, Edvean, and Logan.
