Born in San Antonio, Yvette was the eldest of nine children born to Alberto G. and Alicia Sanchez. She attended Providence High School and was a proud member of the mighty Pro-Vet Drill Team. She was also the senior class president and graduated in 1978.
In August 1978, she began college at Trinity University and during the first days of class she met Russell Guerrero, who would in a few months become her college sweetheart. She graduated from Trinity with a bachelor’s degree in journalism, broadcast, and film in 1982. She and Russell would marry a year later in June 1983.
Yvette spent most of her career at USAA, first working first in Publishing Services and later in the Life Insurance Company. She would become a life underwriter and stay at USAA until she retired after 27 years of service.
Yvette was a fierce lover of her family. As the eldest of her brothers and sisters, she spent much of her time helping and supporting them where she could. An excellent cook, she would liven up Thanksgivings and Christmases with her dishes. When the holidays approached, you could count on Yvette to be involved with making tamales for the family. Anytime a celebration occurred, whether a birthday or a graduation, Yvette would be there.
She loved and was proud of her two sons Adam and Josh and loved to spend time with both her boys. She also loved her daughter-in-law, Tori and was so happy to have her in her life. Lately she took great delight being a grandmother and loved to be with Charlie and Lou Baby.
She loved to travel and liked spending time in New Orleans, beaches in Florida and Texas, and the mountains around Taos, New Mexico. She also loved visiting New York City and had hoped to return someday.
She was a wonderful storyteller with a great sense of humor and friends and family would laugh and enjoy their conversations on just about any topic, from politics, to family history, to UFOs.
She is survived by her husband, Russell, son Adam Joel, daughter-in-law Tori, and grandsons Charles Joel and Lucas Aaron; son Joshua Aaron; father Alberto Sanchez; brothers Al Sanchez, Andy Sanchez, Robert Sanchez and wife Julie Sanchez, Daniel Sanchez and wife Jessica, and John Sanchez; sisters Valarie Sanchez and Rosie Sarro.
