Alice R. Crockett was born to Russell G. Garcia and Rosario N. Garcia in Houston, Texas on October 22, 1939. She grew up to be a strong, loving, and compassionate woman who touched many hearts with her own. She attended Houston's Sixth Ward Dow Elementary/Junior High School and San Jacinto High School. Alice met her future husband, Thomas M. Crockett, in El Paso, Texas. After a brief courtship, they were married in St. Stephen's Catholic Church on May 15, 1960. Being a member of the U.S. Army, Thomas and Alice traveled abroad and were stationed in several locations including Germany. The couple was blessed with 25 years of harmonious matrimony. When Thomas retired from the army, they settled in San Antonio, Texas in order to take advantage of the military bases and the benefits that were offered. Alice loved shopping at the PX and distributing the bargains. Thomas passed away in March 1985 and Alice stayed a widow the remainder of her life.
Alice had an intense zeal for many things in her life. Doing her best to mimic Julia Child, one of her goals was to be an exceptional cook and pastry chef. Without a doubt, Alice accomplished the objective while cooking and baking for her husband, extended family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors. Her famous rum ball cookies were a favorite among her family and friends. Her generous spirit had her cooking and baking extra meals and desserts to share with everyone. Music and dancing were additional passions. Alice was an accomplished cellist who played in the school orchestra and at home with family members. She sought out every opportunity to attend variety shows, concerts, dances, celebrations, parades, and events at San Antonio's Market Square. Evidenced through her words and deeds, by far, Alice's strongest devotion was to her family. There was a constant stream of "surprise packages" and "sunshine cards" sent to all her relatives, young and old. Long before texts and Facebook, Alice was mailing boxes, posting letters, and making long-distance phone calls to check on her family, share a recipe, or inviting you for a visit. Letting her family know how much she cared for them was extremely important to her.
Alice leaves behind to lovingly remember her, brother, Russell A. Garcia, Jr., and wife Rita, sister Rachel B. Villarreal, sister Alma E. Moralez and husband Jorge, sister Jane N. Garcia and many nieces and nephews.
We thank the universe for Alice's life and all the years we shared with her. We lift her spirit to the heavens in honor of the goodness we saw in her and the everlasting love we felt from her.
Please give us the strength to return her to her original beginnings with the knowledge that she is gloriously resting in peace.
