Alejandro, better known as “Alex”, was born at the Nix Hospital in San Antonio, Texas on September 22, 1956, to Alejandro Sr. and Consuelo Tijerina. He attended Holy Cross High School in San Antonio, graduating in 1975. He continued his education at the University of North Texas earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration and marketing in 1981.
His places of work throughout his life included: Litehouse Foods, Otis Spunkmeyer, Borden Dairy, Johnson Controls, and Tifco Industries. Alex retired in 2021 at age 65, due to complications from lung cancer but soon continued working part-time, most recently, at SP Plus as a Valet for Signature Restaurant.
In March 1993, Alex married Nancy Schwartz, of San Antonio, TX (formerly from Plano, Illinois) at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in San Antonio, Texas. They observed their 30th wedding anniversary this year. Alex and his wife raised two sons of whom he was extremely proud. Alex was a devout Catholic and attended masses throughout San Antonio. He was passionate about North Texas Mean Green Football, Holy Cross High School Reunions, and biking on the Leon Creek Greenway. He enjoyed traveling and valued spending time with cherished family and friends.
Alex was preceded in death by his parents Consuelo Alvarado Tijerina and Alejandro Tijerina Sr. He is survived by his wife, Nancy, and his sons Michael Tijerina, and Steven Tijerina, along with his future daughter-in-law Madison Alaniz.
A visitation for Alejandro will be held on Friday, January 5, 2024 from 9:45 AM to 10:30 AM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church - Helotes, 13715 Riggs Rd, Helotes, TX 78023. A rosary will be recited on Friday, January 5, 2024 at 10:30 AM, 13715 Riggs Rd, Helotes, TX 78023 immediately followed by a funeral mass to be celebrated on Friday, January 5, 2024 at 11:00 AM, 13715 Riggs Rd, Helotes, TX 78023. A committal service will follow on Friday, January 5, 2024 at 12:30 PM at Resurrection Cemetery at Cordi Marian, 11624 Culebra Rd, San Antonio, TX 78253.
