Abelardo G. Flores

Abelardo G. Flores entered rest on February 20,2017 in San Antonio,Texas. Born in Floresville,Texas on January 25,1927 to Jesus and Felipa Flores. Abelardo’s first job was an elevator attendant at the Plaza Hotel at the corner of St. Mary’s and Market streets in San Antonio, Texas, where he met the love of his life, Altagracia “Grace” Rodriguez. They were married in St. Phillip of Jesus Catholic Church in November 1948. He worked for many years as a butcher at several San Antonio meat companies, and later moved to work at the Universal Bookbindery. Both worked towards accomplishing Grace’s goal for their children to have Catholic education. Abelardo cared for and managed his home and enjoyed mowing his own lawn, which was one of the best kept lawns on the block.He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Altagracia, siblings: Alberto, Armando, Adelmira, Amalia; and is survived by: daughters Adi (Eddie) and Dora (Steve), son Abelardo (Dorothy); grandchildren: Sonia , Maricella, Edwardo, Sandra, Jennifer, Paige, Jessica, and Alexa; siblings Adelfa and Aroldo; and numerous other relatives. The family expresses their sincere gratitude to the staff at Northgate nursing home for their compassionate care. Visitation will be Monday, February 27,2017 at 5:00p.m. with a 7:00p.m.Rosary. A procession will depart the funeral home Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at 9:30a.m. to celebrate a 10:00a.m. Mass at St. Leo’s, 4401 S. Flores. Interment will follow in San Fernando Cemetery II.
