Saragosa (Sally) Luna Sablan, 71, peacefully passed from this earth January 27, 2016, at Shannon Medical Center in San Angelo, Texas. Surrounded by loved ones as her soul ascended to Heaven, we know that she is safe in the arms of our Father.
Sally was born to Manuel and Hilaria Juarez on October 20, 1944, in Carlsbad, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Joaquin Sablan, along with siblings Tony Juarez, Ramona Davis, Olivia Morin, and Linda Castillo. Sally is survived by sons Frank Sablan, and wife Ellen, and Sam Sablan and Deanna Watkins. Her grandchildren, Bryan, Brandi, and Ally Sablan, continually made her proud and brought her great joy. The newest light of her life was great-granddaughter, Aubree Sablan. Surviving siblings are Ernestina DeLeon, Phyllis Hannon, Sylvia Montalvo, Andy Franklin, Willie Juarez, and Gilbert Juarez. Sally is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, “adopted” sons, and beloved friends.
Sally worked for over thirty years with SAISD before retiring as cafeteria manager. No child ever went hungry when Ms. Sally was working. Active in the community throughout the years, Sally was a Girl Scout leader, head cook at summer Boy Scout Camp, cook at Christ the King Retreat Center, active volunteer at the English Tea, San Angelo Rodeo & Stock Show exhibits, March of Dimes and American Heart Association, and a faithful member of Holy Angels parish. Sally’s gift was helping others.
Sally will surely spend eternity dancing and singing along to every George Strait song ever recorded. We will honor her memory and rejoice for the time she was with us on earth, for we know that we shall see her again in Heaven. As believers, we take comfort in God’s promise.
Visitation will be held Monday, Feb. 1 in Johnson’s Funeral Home Chapel, beginning at 5:00 p.m., with the Rosary recitation at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass is at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 2, at Holy Angels Catholic Church with Fr. Charles Greenwell officiating. Interment will immediately follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
To all those who knew and loved Sally, remember her well and choose to help others in her honor.
