Robert “Bob” Paul Mooney was born on January 27, 1936 in Evansville, Indiana. He spent his last 57 years happily married to Flora Agnes Alvey. Throughout their years together, Bob and Agnes raised six children, and he leaves behind a tremendous legacy through his 22 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Bob was the eldest of Joseph and Marie Mooney’s four children. He passed away on August 8, 2016, at 80 years of age, in San Angelo, Texas.
After serving his country in the United States Navy as a Seabee from November 1954 to November 1956, he continued his service in the United States Border Patrol from November 1962 to January 1987. Machinery and gun smithing were Bob’s true passions in life, and upon retirement from the U.S. Border Patrol, he continued using his talents through Wes-Tex Manufacturing, a company he owned and operated for over 20 years. To this day, he is still revered and respected throughout West Texas for his ability to build and repair firearms and his knowledge of weaponry. He was one of three people ever awarded a lifetime membership in the San Angelo Gun Club, and continues to be a member of good standing in The Fraternal Order of Retired Border Patrol Officers and the National Rifle Association. Additionally, Bob participated in local government by serving on the Sonora City Council and Dove Creek Home Owner’s Association. He not only loved his country, but he had an undying empathy and love for animals, and he will be sorely missed by his many pets.
His life is still celebrated by his children and their spouses: Pat and Gary Hann, Theresa and Jerry Beene, Curtis Mooney, Nancy and Mark North, LaDonna and David Alaman, and Mickey and Joe Schaefer. He will be remembered by his grandchildren Lee and Melissa Hann, Gary Jr. Hann, Jennifer and Edward Carr, Travis Taylor, Shawn Couch, Courtney and Daniel Pitts, Kinsey Mooney, Jeremy and Nikki North, Tiffany and George Delarosa, Michael and Candice King, David Jr. and Kandy Alaman, Amy and Aaron Flint, Jason Alaman, and Lauran Schaefer. His great grandchildren include Kendal and Emory Hann, Emma and Jasper Carr, Zaylee Couch, Joseph Brazeal, Violet North, and Tracey, Brett, Jacob, and Terry Joe King, Emma and Ava Alaman, Jared and Emily Flint. He is survived by many siblings and siblings-in-law: Carolyn and Richard Bohm, Pete Lintzenich, and Michael Mooney, Daisy and Ronnie Lindsey, Joanie Arnold, Bettye and Glendall Smith, Richard and Kathy Alvey, Doris Powell, and Christine Pruitt. He is preceded in death by his sister Joann Lintzenich, his in-laws Jean and JT Harper and Sheila Perry, his parents, and his grandchildren Rebekah and Cara North.
