He was born August 13, 1925 in Hardin, Texas the son of William Shirley and Ollie McDaniel Greer. Following graduation from San Angelo Senior High School in 1943, he attended the Electrical Mates Training Course at the University of Kansas in 1944. He later served during W.W. II in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946. He married Pauline Clark on November 3, 1946 in San Angelo. She preceded him in death. He later returned to Goodfellow Air Force Base and retired from Civil Service working as a civil engineer and also did other electrical work in the community. Robert became a Christian at an early age and had been a faithful member of the Foursquare Church and had been an active member of Parkside Community Church serving in many capacities. One of the highlights of his and his wife’s ministry was driving kids to summer church camp in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. That became the family vacation each year.
He is survived by two sons, Mark Greer and Steve Greer both of San Angelo, two daughters, Linda Babitzke and husband Dennis of San Angelo and Sue Burleson and husband Bill of Odessa, six grandchildren, Michael Greer, David Greer, Linsey Simmons, Karla Earnshaw, Brian Burleson, and Troy Burleson. Eight great-grandchildren also survive as well as two sisters, Emma Jean Whitfield of Baytown, and Edith Davis of Mt. Belvieu, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline, four sisters, Dorothy, Grace, Lois and Margaret and three brothers, Howard, Floyd, and Gilbert.
A service of remembrance will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, June 9, at the Parkside Community Church with Pastor Don Jackson officiating under the direction of Johnson’s Funeral Home. Private burial will follow at Johnson’s Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens
