Michael Jan Koschak, D.D.S. passed away on February 7, 2011, after a lengthy illness and ascended into the open and loving arms of her heavenly Father and personal Savior, Jesus Christ. She had been a resident of Sagecrest’s Talley House for the past two years.
Michael was born on December 30, 1946, to Reuben and Molina Nieves in Norman, Oklahoma and attended schools in New Mexico, graduating from Clovis High School in 1964 and from The University of New Mexico in 1968. While in College, Michael was a member of the NCA cheerleading squad, traveling to various states as an instructor at many summer clinics where she taught cheerleading techniques to many high school and college cheerleaders. Following college, she worked as a dental hygienist in Albuquerque before graduating from Baylor Dental College in 1980. She married Ramsey Koschak, D.D.S. on March 15, 1980 and together they began their practice of dentistry in San Angelo.
Michael volunteered countless hours with various San Angelo organizations and served as president of the Jr. League of San Angelo and the Crockett P.T.A. and co-chairman of Fiesta Del Concho. She delivered meals to the homebound for many years through the Meals for the Elderly program, always with a bright smile and the gift of laughter shared with each recipient. She constantly and enthusiastically supported her children in all of their activities and sporting events and often proudly carried the title of “Team Mom.”
She was an active member of Glen Meadows Baptist Church, singing in the choir and teaching Sunday school with her husband. She also cherished the times when she and her dad would sing beautiful hymns together.
Michael never met a stranger and often made her friends feel special by celebrating their birthdays with outrageous costumes-always inciting the utmost laughter with her antics. She made friends easily and was always able to laugh at herself, never taking herself too seriously. Her smile was contagious- and always genuine- and she will be thought of often and dearly missed, even though we are confident that she is now home in heaven, completely restored and made whole again.
Michael’s family will forever be grateful to those known, as well as unknown, citizens throughout the community who provided Michael with varying kinds of assistance in her everyday tasks while she was still independent but in the process of experiencing the loss of some of her former capabilities. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the incredible staff at the Talley House for the exceptional care and compassion given to Michael.
Michael was preceded in death by her parents, Judge Reuben and Molina Nieves and her brother, Randy Nieves. She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Ramsey Koschak of San Angelo, daughter Jordan Koschak Maedgen and husband Brody, son, Seth Koschak, and grandchildren, Carter James and Charlotte Michael Maedgen, all of Dallas.
Pallbearers will be Jack Bleakley, Wayne Doyle, James Maedgen, Ernie Mayer, Chris Ostrander, Billy Roberson, and Drs. Hunt Batjer, Brad McConnell, Reggie Noble, Terrell Sheen and Wes Wilkening.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to one of Michael’s favorite charities, Meals for the Elderly, 310 E. Houston Harte Expressway, San Angelo, Texas 76903 – or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
A memorial service celebrating Michael’s life will be held at 1:00 P.M., Thursday, February 10, 2011 at Glen Meadows Baptist church with Mills Caraway officiating. A private family burial will be held preceding the service. The family will receive friends and the visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at Johnson’s Funeral Home.
