Mary Catherine (Cathy) Weder Cook (OMA), 93, of San Angelo passed away on August 4, 2023. She was born on December 6, 1929 in Buffalo, Oklahoma to John and Gertrude Weder. Cathy attended Buffalo High School and graduated in the class of 1948. She later went on to obtain an associate’s degree from Oklahoma City Community College. Cathy held a wide variety of jobs.
From the time she could walk, and follow directions, she helped on the farm with her 10 siblings. At the age of 14, she moved into town to continue High School. She lived with a widow and helped with meals and cleaning. On weekends she went to the farm and worked until Monday. After graduation she moved to Oklahoma City where she worked as a “soda jerk” at a Five & Dime. She would often make milkshakes for Mickey Mantle. After obtaining her associate’s degree, she installed AC units in military planes. Throughout her life-time, she worked a variety of jobs.
Cathy, OMA, was a loving and encouraging grandmother, mother and friend. Oma played an important role in the lives of her grandchildren. From their births, until her passing, she was, and will continue to be with them.
Those that knew her will miss her greatly but she lives on in all our hearts and memories.
Cathy married Donald Ray Cook on June 17, 1951 and had one child, Marsha Rae.
Cathy had a passion for cooking, flowers, birds and gardening. She will always be remembered for trying new recipes, teaching others to cook and her kindness to others. She had a tender and loving heart and made people feel welcome.
Cathy is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Donald Ray Cook, her siblings, Loyal Weder, David Weder, Margaret Weder, Tommy Fred Weder, Anna May Bolt, John Weder, Andy Weder and Dolly Weder.
She is survived by her daughter, Marsha Cook Crabtree and her spouse, Charlie Crabtree; her grandchildren, Brian Austin Cook-Lindsay and wife, Jessica McDowell Cook-Lindsay
Allyson Rae Cook-Lindsay and life partner, Tyler Tipton; her great grandson who is coming soon; her siblings, Raymond Weder and Bertha Pierce, as well as many loved nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on September 5, 2023, at 10:30 am in Johnson's Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens in San Angelo, TX. In honor of Cathy, the family asks that bright or floral attire be worn for her service!
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a memorial donation to San Angelo Gentiva Hospice, Meals for the Elderly or the charity of your choice. The family would also like to thank Gentiva Hospice, with special thanks to Sarai, who cares for her patients with tenderness, love and laughter, Dianne Bass and her caregivers and Marcia and Sandra Lindsay, who came each Friday and had lunch with Mom.
