Born on September 21, 1933, in San Angelo, TX, Marilyn was the daughter of Robert “Bob” and Winnie Wright Smith. She graduated from San Angelo High School in 1952, and went on to attend Lindenwood College in St. Charles, MO. Marilyn enjoyed college life and spent one summer term at The University of Hawaii. She transferred to Baylor University where she met Harold Cobb. They graduated together in 1956 and were married that same year. They had 3 children together: Linda Kay, Rebecca Ann and Robert Harold.
Marilyn dedicated many years to her passion for education, teaching in schools across Houston, Harlingen, and Waco. In 1972, she returned to her hometown of San Angelo as a single woman and took a position at City Savings. It was here that fate brought her to Bill Taylor, whom she married in 1974.
In addition to her role as a mother and wife, Marilyn played an integral part in Bill’s business, Angelo Brick, where her kindness and dedication won the hearts of many customers and colleagues alike. Her compassionate spirit extended beyond her family and work; she was an active volunteer at the Tom Green County Library and participated in the “School Marms” program at Fort Concho. Marilyn was also a cherished member of the Philia Club and Southland Baptist Church, where she fostered friendships and shared her love for community service.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Winnie Smith, her brother, Robert H. Smith, her daughter, Linda Cobb Uhr, and her son, Robert Harold Cobb. She is survived by her devoted husband, Bill Taylor, and her loving daughter, Rebecca Cobb Harrell of Scottsdale, AZ; her stepchildren, Jimmy Taylor and wife Pam of San Antonio, TX; Kay Sheehan of Tulsa, OK and Donna Cunningham of Dallas, TX.
A visitation will be held on October 31 from 5 to 7 PM at Johnson’s Funeral Home, followed by a Graveside Service on November 1 at 11 AM at Fairmount Cemetery.
Marilyn’s warmth, love, and vibrant spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
