Larry Landon Word

Larry Landon Word, loving husband and father, proud grandfather, and treasured brother and friend went home to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on Wednesday, August 10, 2011. Larry was born in McCamey, TX on September 18, 1945, to Lester and Inez Word, and raised in San Angelo, TX for most of his life. Larry attended elementary school and Lake View Jr. and Sr. high schools, meeting the love of his life and future wife Patsy in the 5th grade. He married his sweetheart, Patsy Ann Rabb on July 23rd, 1966. They moved to Odessa, Texas in 1970 where Larry worked in many facets of the oil industry over the next 28 years and raised their son. Larry enjoyed coaching football and being involved in youth sports during his time in Odessa and was a previous president of the Permian Football Booster Club. In 1998, they moved to the Dallas area to pursue other interests and be closer to family. Larry and Patsy enjoyed their travels together, especially Las Vegas. He also cherished moments spent in playtime and cuddles with his three granddaughters. Larry knew no strangers, he loved meeting people and was a loyal friend to many. He touched those in his life with his encouragement, kindness, sense of humor and loving nature. His strong and generous spirit will be missed. He was referred to by many as a “Gentle Giant”. Larry is predeceased by his parents Ruby Inez Rains and Lester Landon Word . He is survived by his beloved wife Patsy; his cherished son Landon & his wife, Amy and 3 adoring granddaughters Lauren, Makenzie and Kaylee. He is also survived by his loving brother Nelson and his family. Graveside services will be held on Monday, August 15th at 10:00 AM at Lawnhaven Cemetery in San Angelo, TX.
