Larry Franklin Oxley, at age 77, went to be with our Lord on June 15, 2015 in the early morning hours. Born in Huntington Indiana to Richard and Constance Oxley on January 28, 1938, where Larry played football in high school and graduated. He went directly into the USAF where he served for four years in special operations. He was prohibited to talk of his work for fifty years after he served and his mom and dad both passed before he could tell them what he did ,(they always thought he drove a bus while in the Air Force).
During his time in the Air Force, he met his first wife in Texas and they had two children, and for many years Larry carried the role of father and mother to his children. He was a member in the Church of Christ in Eola for several years. Larry farmed and also started a prominent hog operation. He served on the board for the Central Texas Telephone Company. On December 17, 1976 Larry married Carolyn Sue Manning. He pursued a dream in auctioneering and together with Sue, established Oxley Auction Service which has been in business for the last 38 years. This was a family business and his son Richard auctionered beside him all of those years as well. Larry had a tremendous love for animals. He was a natural at practical jokes and making people smile.
Larry was a survivor of colon cancer, he suffered from COPD among other physical disabilities and other challenges related to a major surgery that he had 10 yrs prior. It was a challenging decade for both Larry and Sue. Sue never left his side.
Larry is survived by his wife Sue Oxley, his 2 children Richard Oxley and Sheryl Oxley Francis, her husband Bill Francis and Larrys two grand children Kevin and Cody Francis, whom thought that there papa "hung the moon". He is also survived as well by his sister Glenda Kay Sanders, her husband Bob Sanders and there children Rob, Doug, John and Abigail. One nephew Nathan Oxley and a great nephew Jake Sanders. Larry also has two aunts whom he thought the world of, Leah Decker and Billy Permoda. Larrys relatives reside in Indiana. Larry has 3 step children, Steve Glass, Chris Glass and Angela Bigham, He is survived by three step grandchildren, Jeremy and Bailey Glass and Jason Bigham. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, brother Terry and Gary Oxley.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM - 7:00PM., Friday, June 26, 2015 at Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel. The Funeral Service will be 1:00 P.M., Saturday, June 27, 2015 at Johnson's funeral Home Chapel.
