Rosary service is at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016 in Johnson’s Funeral Home Chapel with a visitation prior. Mass of Christian Burial is at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016 at Sacred Heart Cathedral with Fr. Steven Hicks officiating. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
James was born on April 13, 1934 in Eola, Texas to Adam and Pauline Hollas Michalewicz. He lived most of his life in the San Angelo area. He proudly served his country in the US Navy from 1952 to 1960, active duty from 1955 to 1957. Commissioned and “plank owner” of the USS Gallant (MOS-489), and honorably discharged with the rank of EN 3.
James married Evelyn Schwertner on June 26, 1962 in Wall, Texas. Together they raised a family in the Grape Creek Community where he farmed for many years. James served as Secretary/Agent of Germania Farm Mutual Insurance Local 264 for 31 years. He was also a member of the Cathedral Church of the Sacred Heart and Knights of Columbus. James found much enjoyment in traveling, camping, and spending time at the Llano River property with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Adam and Pauline, brother Ernest Michalewicz, sister Rose Schulz, brothers-in-law Paul Schulz and Robert Simon. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Evelyn Michalewicz; his sons: Paul Michalewicz of Florence, Texas and Tim Michalewicz of San Angelo; daughter Karen Biggerstaff and husband Brian of San Angelo; grandchildren: Macy Michalewicz of San Angelo, Lacie Michalewicz of Happy, Texas, Jaclyn and Eric Biggerstaff of San Angelo. He is also survived by his sisters: Lorene Wilde and husband Hubert of Wall, Texas, Shirley Halfmann and husband David of Robert Lee, Texas, and Betty Simon of Albuquerque, New Mexico. James also leaves behind his many cherished nieces and nephews.
