Gilbert Hernandez Garcia Jr., age 58, of San Angelo, Texas passed away on Saturday, October 23, 2021. Gilbert was born February 26, 1963 in San Angelo, Texas to Gilbert G. Garcia Sr. and Oralia H. Garcia. Gilbert attended San Angelo Central High School and later began his career working as an electrician in San Angelo and the surrounding areas.
Gilbert enjoyed sports, he was an all-around athlete and excelled especially as a running back where he played for Robert E. Lee Junior High and Central High School. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan as well. Gilbert's contagious smile and wittiness will always be remembered. His hobbies included family cookouts, cooking, playing pool, spending time with his family and friends, but most of all, spending time with his mom.
Gilbert is preceded in death by twin sisters, Elizabeth and Christina Garcia; his maternal grandparents, Francisco and Petra Hernandez; his paternal grandparents, Albino and Antonia Garcia; his nephews, Justin and Michael James Ortiz and Austin Jay Rivera, as well as his childhood friend, Ray Knapp.
Those left to cherish his memory are his parents, Gilbert and Oralia Garcia; his sisters, Gloria Garcia, Debbie Ortiz and husband Santos, Diana Villarreal and husband Richard, and Rachael Martinez and husband Richard; his children, Theresa Danielle Sandefur, Anthony Gilbert Garcia, Matthew Chipman, Kenny Chipman and Kinna Chipman; 18 grandchildren, 13 nieces and nephews, 29 great nieces and nephews, and 7 great-great nieces and nephews.
A rosary for Gilbert will be held Friday, October 29, 2021 at 7:00 PM at Johnson's Funeral Home, 435 West Beauregard Avenue. A funeral mass will occur Saturday, October 30, 2021 at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 301 West 17th Street. Gilbert will be laid to rest in Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jason Rivera, Mark Ortiz, Eddie Gutierrez, Frank Villarreal, Nathaniel Martinez, Benjamin Martinez, Oscar Nino Jr., Jacob Duran and Adam Nino. Honorary Pallbearers will be Anton Gutierrez, Johnny Rivera Jr., Jeremy Rivera, Corby Maskill, Larry Lambert and Ray Macareno.
