Gary Smith

He was born on October 16, 1949 in San Angelo, Texas to Kathryn Norman and Homer Smith.

Gary attended San Angelo Central High School and graduated in the class of 1967. He later went on to obtain a Master of Science in Psychology from Angelo State University. Gary began his career in Juvenile Probation working for Tom Green County. He was a Juvenile Probation Officer and Substance Abuse Counselor. Gary helped countless youth throughout his career and changed many lives for the better.

Gary married Janice Holland on April 15, 1978. The couple welcomed two children, Jessica and Cassidy. When he wasn't spending time with his family or helping troubled children, Gary loved to continue learning. He could always be found with a book in his hand.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Kathryn and Homer Smith.

Left to cherish Gary's memory are his loving wife, Janice Smith; daughter, Jessica Easterwood and husband Chris; grandson Elijah; daughter, Dr. Cassidy Newton and husband JD; and grandchildren, Felicity and Gabriel. Also left to cherish his memory are many beloved nieces and nephews.

A visitation for Gary will be held Thursday, June 13, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Johnson's Funeral Home, 435 W Beauregard Ave, San Angelo, Texas 76903. A funeral service will occur Friday, June 14, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Glen Meadows Baptist Church, 6002 Knickerbocker Rd, San Angelo, TX 76904. Interment will follow at Johnson's Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens, 4989 FM 1223, San Angelo, TX 76905.

Pallbearers for Gary's service will be Chris Easterwood, JD Newton, Mark Lee, Wayne Elkins, Manfred Thompson, and Kalton May.

The Smith Family would like to thank Bronte Health and Rehab Center for their loving care. The family would also like to thank Gentiva Hospice for the care they gave Gary during his hospice journey.
