Dorothy Mae Washington-Shorter

On Tuesday October 5, 2021 at the age of 78, Dorothea Mae Washington-Shorter of San Angelo, TX went home to be with the Lord. Dorothy, as she was loving called by her family and friends, was born in Duncan, Oklahoma to Garland Deveraux Washington and Elizabeth Naomi Campbell-Washington who proceed her in death. Dorothy retired from GTE/Verizon after 31 years of service. Dorothy spent her life ever striving to improve the lives of others, especially her family. She was a volunteer at the Soup Kitchen and at the young age of 66, went back to school to obtain her GED. Dorothy was an avid Rose Gardner, talented cook, great dancer, jewelry maker, seamstress, and enthusiastic Young & The Restless fan (Victor). Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory three siblings: Lillie Pope (Lee); Archie Washington; and Terry Washington (Selenda). Four children: Wanda D. Ford-Beaty (Simmie); Nannette Davis (Freddy); Crystal N. Thomas (KT); and John D. Newton. Five grandsons: Garvin Deveraux, Andre Kenneth, Troy Deveraux, Tarver Garland, and John Deveraux Jr. Three granddaughters: Aurelle Davis, Leanette Davis, and Deneece Eddington. Three great grandchildren: Mercedez Saryn , Jada Jysenia, and Zeyvion Deveraux. Her celebration of life will be held on Wednesday October 13th at Johnson Funeral Home (435 W Beauregard Ave) beginning at 1pm.
