Dorothy Imogene Henry, 93, of San Angelo, Texas, passed away on May 16, 2020. She was born in September of 1926 in Abilene, Texas to John and Bertha Hassey. Imogene attended Abilene High School and later TSCW and Hardin-Simmons University where she obtained her BS & MA degrees. She also did post graduate study at Texas Tech, North Texas, West Texas, Adams State, & Texas A & M. Imogene then began her 40 year career in teaching, working for schools in Rochester, Merkle, and Snyder as a typewriting and shorthand teacher. She finished her career as an assistant professor at ASU, teaching, secretarial skills & procedures, office machines, economics, business, and computers. Imogene married Clois D. "C. D." Henry on May 21, 1946 and had 2 children. They were married for 61 years until his death in 2008. Imogene was a proud member of First Baptist Church since 1964. She was also a member of Retired Teachers Association and a past president of Beta Sigma Phi sorority. She had a passion for traveling. She and Clois spent many years vacationing, camping, and traveling for his Air Force Reserve duties at Adams State College in Colorado, and to his Air Force Squadron reunions. Imogene will always remembered for her passion for travel, teaching, reading, and caring for her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband Clois; her parents, John & Bertha Hassey; and her sister, Yvonne Martin. Imogene is survived by her daughter, Winona Henry; her son and daughter-in-law, John & Dana Henry; her sister, Gena Foster; and many loving nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
A visitation will be held at Johnson's Funeral Home on May 19, 2020 from 6-8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on May 20, 2020 at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church of San Angelo with interment to follow at Johnson's Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the Henry family asks that you make a memorial donation in Imogene's name to First Baptist Church of San Angelo or a charity of your choice. The family would also like to thank St. Gabriel's Hospice for their excellent care and compassion, as well as the staff of New Haven Assisted Living and Arbor Terrace Healthcare Center who loved and cared for her.
