Bob was the only son of Lillie and Joe Nowlin of Richland Springs, Texas, who preceded him in death. He graduated from Richland Springs High School and Angelo State University with a B.A. in Speech. Bob taught school at Fairview Elementary School. He later was a regional director of the American Heart Association, Assistant Manager of the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce, and Asset Recovery Manager for Bonnet Resources. His last 25 years were spent as a property manager. Even after a bout with cancer, macular degeneration, and heart problems, he refused to retire. However, he spent his early morning hours with his special coffee drinking buddies.
Bob was a teller of tales. Hopefully you got to hear his tale of bringing home a live twelve-point buck in the back seat of his Bronco, or the story of almost drowning his friend David when he gave David the deep end of the seine, or his tale of having to abandon his fishing boat when a water moccasin decided to join him, or when six-year-old Leandra out-fished him, or the story of his pet raccoon riding on the hood of his '57 ford in downtown Dallas. Unfortunately, he never wrote a book of his many adventures even though family and friends encouraged him to.
Bob leaves behind to mourn his passing, his wife of 53 years, Nelda Martin Nowlin; his son, Justin Wade Nowlin; and his daughter, Leandra Nowlin. Leandra has been in a wheel chair for 20 years as the result of her injuries incurred in a car wreck. Bob was her devoted caregiver, father, and moral support. Bob is also survived by his Aunt Bobbye Harris of Wall, and many close cousins.
Pallbearers include Gary Woods, Doug Smith, Barclay Stuart, Ben Fairly, Steve Wilson, and Gary Pair. Honorary Pallbearers are David Cave, Paul Allen, Dale Bridges, Buddie Hasty, Tom Frazier, and T.L. Stewart.
Bob was a unique individual who was generous with his time to those who needed his help. He had a big heart and truly loved his family and friends. He never found a stray animal that de didn't love and care for and bring home. He was a Christian since childhood. We are comforted by knowing he is in Heaven--Waiting for us.
