Billy Gene Hill was born December 16, 1937 to Glady’s Hill. Not much is known of his yearly childhood, but it is known he lived with several family members but ultimately, he and his mother ended up at the San Angelo State Supported Living Center, where his mother lived until her death. She is here buried in this cemetery. Billy stayed here until around 1997 when he was moved to a group home with MHMR Services for the Concho Valley. Billy worked at numerous day habilitation centers throughout the years including MHMR, Daybreak Services, Bluebonnet, American Habilitation and Concho Resources. Many of his jobs were picking up trash, shredding paperwork, making gun racks, putting pens together, making meal packets and helping getting boxes ready for distribution. He also lived in several foster homes in his lifetime, and he made an impact in all. His first home was with Juan Luna, then The Lightfoot’s, Monty and Nora Ogletree, Ron and Judy Smith, Mary Rodriquez, and his last home was with Juan and Cissy Luna. He loved every home he lived and hated to leave each one but looked forward to the new adventure of the new home. Billy did not know a stranger and loved everyone, and oh how he loved to talk. If you ever met Billy, he would remember your name forever and was a friend for life. Every time he went to Wal Mart or anywhere, he would spot someone he knew and would go talk to them. He was a great teller of tall tales if he could finish them without laughing. The man loved to laugh. Some of Billy’s many interest were fishing, singing, coloring, dancing and going out to eat. Even though he loved to go out to eat, he always ordered a hamburger (bun, meat and cheese only) and fries with a Dr. Pepper.
He loved the Walton’s. He had it in his head they were real and looked forward to watching them everyday. When he went to bed each night when living with The Smith’s he would say Goodnight Ron & Judy, Goodnight John Boy, then he would turn off the light and go to sleep. He also loved to watch Gunsmoke and other western movies. And Oh, don’t forget the Dallas Cowboys. He was a die hard life long fan. One of Billy’s favorite past times. He seldom missed a game and the next few days after he would talk about the game to anyone who would listen. Win or lose he really did not care. Lots of times after a game he would ask, “who won.” No matter the outcome it was a good game. He just loved watching and talking about them. The past few years his favorite activity was sitting on the porch with his music, singing Johnny Cash songs, drinking “Near Beer” and dipping Copenhagen. Billy leaves behind a lifetime of friends and family to which he will be missed dearly. He was preceded in death by his mother Glady’s Hill, friends Jack & Jo Lighfoot, Ron Smith, JW Smith, Meregildo Canales, Norris Lemeu, Bennie Kuentz, Joseph Meeks, Teresa Geistmann, and longtime girlfriend Margarita Alvarado. Billy has one surviving cousin Robert Hill and wife Loretta of Odessa, Texas. His extended family are Juan and Cissy Luna and children Aaron, Lauren, and Olivia. Mandy Smith and children Sloan, Raegan and Justin Smith and mother Judy Smith and Mandy’s siblings Todd & Sandy Smith and Shana Harwell. Billy always said he was his own guardian angel. He is now with the angels, telling tall tales, seeing old friends and making new ones. Good Night John Boy. Good Night Billy Gene Hill.
