Irwin served in the US Army from 1961-1963 in Kitzigen, Germany. Irwin met Maxinne in 1966 and were soon married in 1967. Irwin finished school at Pace University in June, 1969 and started his 33-year career with American Express that took him and our family to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1982.
Irwin was an active member of the East Northport Jewish Center (NY) and Congregation Kol Ami (SLC), generously serving in all capacities, including congregational president of Kol Ami. He was their chief volunteer and his absence will be a significant hole to fill. He was an avid bowler, so much so that Kol Ami had his bowling schedule in the office so they knew when not to bother him on his league night(s).
Irwin is survived by his daughters: Lori, Gayle (Burns), & Debra; grandson Ian Burns, the center of his universe; sister Eileen (Sy) Shames (Basking Ridge, NJ), 7 nieces & nephews and 10 grand-nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, his one true love, Maxinne; his parents Louis and Rose Berry; and his sisters Lorraine Buchalter, Marilyn Kantrowitz, and Harriet Berry; and his son-in-law Michael Burns.
The family expresses their deepest thanks and appreciation to Huntsman Cancer Hospital for the compassion and care given to him and our family.
Funeral services will be held, Tuesday, November 29th 2:00 pm at Evans and Early, 574 East 100 South, Salt Lake City; burial following at Montefiore Cemetery, 4th Avenue between Cypress Avenue and 1100 East.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers for donations to be made to Congregation Kol Ami (https://www.conkolami.org/); Jewish Family Service of Utah (http://jfsutah.org/); Huntsman Cancer Hospital (https://donate.huntsmancancer.org/give).
