Carolyn Lucinda Adkins, 80, of Chanhassen, Minnesota, formerly of Mardela Springs, Maryland, passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at Abbott North Western Hospital, Minneapolis, Minnesota. Born on July 13, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Margaret Elizabeth Goslee Adkins and Benjamin Fulton “B.F.” Adkins. Growing up in Sharptown, Maryland, Carolyn enjoyed and fondly recalled that most of her neighbors were family, including grandparents, aunts and uncles, great-aunts and uncles, and cousins. Carolyn developed a life long interest and enthusiasm for history and genealogical research beginning with a demonstration that she could marry her high school sweetheart of no relation, Donald “Donnie” “Ace” Lee Adkins of Mardela Springs. Donnie and Carolyn were wed on January 26, 1963. Shortly thereafter, Carolyn began her long career in the banking industry first being employed by the Bank of Delaware, located in Seaford. Eventually, Carolyn transitioned over to the Maryland National Bank where she was employed for many years working alongside family members Robert “Bob” Wheatley and Thomas “Tommy” Knowles. In the early 1990’s, Maryland National was acquired by Nations Bank, leading Carolyn to transition over to the Hebron Savings Bank, where she retired in 2006 as an Assistant Vice President and Branch Manager.
A member of The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Carolyn’s interest for history and genealogical research continued as she participated with other family members and local historians to locate, identify, and preserve local family cemeteries. She assisted many other local families in their quest for genealogical history and served for many years at The Edward H. Nabb Research Center for Delmarva History & Culture at Salisbury University, where she received many appreciation awards for her outstanding services. Carolyn became very involved in the Adkins Historical & Museum Complex, located in Mardela Springs, continuing the work of J. Howard and Louise Adkins to preserve the past and further cultural and educational interests in the local community, last serving as the organization’s treasurer.
Carolyn is survived by two children, Ace Lee Adkins and his wife Cindy Lee, and Sherry Lucinda Beverley; seven grandchildren, Hannah Adkins and Abigail Adkins Payne, Jonathan and Lauren Balas, Tyler, Will, and Emma Beverley; many cousins, and extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband Donnie “Ace” Lee Adkins in 2020.
