William George “Bill” McMillan, father, brother, uncle and friend to all who ever had the pleasure to meet him, passed away on the 8th of July 2022 in Salem, Oregon. Bill was born on the 26th of June,1942 in McMinnville, Oregon to John Robert and Helen Mina (Cofer) McMillan.
Bill was always the best at whatever he set out to achieve. In grade school he became a marble champion and went on to win state championship, flying to Florida for the grand championship tournament he lost by only one marble. He then began his football career and was starting quarterback in his freshman year of high school. In his senior year their team went on to play in the East-West Shriners game. In his entire years of playing football, he only had one interception and that was in the Shriners game.
Bill served his county as a proud Marine. He joined the service during the Cuban Missile Crisis and was honorably discharged as a corporal.
Bill loved to play golf with all his buddies. He cherished laughing and telling stories on the 19th hole, many of which we dare not repeat.
Bill lived a full life and enjoyed every minute of it. He is survived by his older sibling Joen Roberta (McMillan) Morse, his younger brother Robert Pete McMillan and wife Barbara Eileen (Eggers) McMillan, his niece Angela Kay (McMillan) Failla and her husband John Failla, his nephew Robert Jason McMillan and wife Michelle Nicole (Reid) McMillan. His loving children with his first born, Rebecca Rae "Becky" (McMillan) Simms, who unfortunately passed away on June 30, 2020, his second born and eldest son John Kevin McMillan and wife Marilyn June “Lynn” (Holmquist) McMillan and children Brittney Witcher, Tiffany Haney and Michael McMillan, his third born son William Brady McMillan and his wife Mackensey Beatrice “Kensey” McMillan and their children Jarron, Jadyn, Londyn, Brayden, Blayne and newest born Brynlee. Bill shared a large portion of his life with a loved and cherished friend Ardis Collier her children and grandchildren that he thought of as his own family. Bill is survived by a total of 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Bill was surrounded by his loving family when he took his last breath on this earth and his first breath in Heaven. He will forever be missed and will live in our hearts forever. His final wishes were to have his ashes spread on the coastal inlet where his daughter’s ashes were spread.
A ceremony of life will be held August 28th 2022 at 4:00pm at the South Salem Golf Club located at 2025 Golf Course Rd. South, Salem, Oregon.
