Ruth Elizabeth Schaefer

She married Lawrence Peterson who tragically passed in a truck accident leaving Ruth with her young son, Garry. Eventually she met Richard Schaefer, who she turned down multiple times until she gave in go on a date. They attended a wrestling match at the Grand Ole Opry when Tony Borne was thrown into the crowd landing on chairs Ruth and Richard had just moved from. They began a courtship that lead to a marriage of love, understanding and plenty of hard work.

Ruth and her family took care of their acres and cows and she always made a welcoming home. Once they retired they spent many years traveling.

She is preceded in death by her parents and loving husband. She is survived by her “three beautiful boys”, Garry (Janie), Richard (Tina), and Victor (Sandy); grandchildren, Sandra, Candice, Nicky, Zack, Amanda, Robert, Justin, Robin, Kija (Devin), Stephanie (Louis), Andrew, James, Kaden and Isaac; great grandchildren, Haley, Olivia and Jonah.

Services will be held Wednesday, September 14th at 6pm, at Messiah Lutheran Church, 4965 Indiana Avenue NE Salem, Oregon 97305. A Graveside Service will be held Saturday, September 17th at 10:30 am at Belcrest Memorial Park. A Celebration of Life will follow at 12pm at Howell Edwards Doerksen with Rigdon Ransom Funeral Directors.
