Norma Jean (Tinker) Trammell was born December 10, 1933 to Ruth (Hester) and John Tinker in Seminole, Ok. Ruth died when Norma Jean was 2 days old. Norma Jean was raised by her grandparents Wiley and Minerva Tinker. She went to grade school in Bache, OK, graduating from Haileyville High School class of 1952. Upon graduation she went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in McAlester, OK as a telephone operator.
In October of 1954 she met Don Trammell (blind date) from Tulsa. They were married January 14, 1955. She transferred to SW Bell in Tulsa. In November 1955 they moved to Amarillo, TX and she transferred to SW Bell in Amarillo.
In 1956 Don was drafted into the US Army and was sent to Korea in December 1956. She saw him off from Ft. Lewis, WA and while he was deployed she lived with Don’s aunt and uncle Retha and Dewey Lowery in Brooks, OR and worked for Pacific NW Bell in Salem, OR as a telephone operator.
In May 1958 Don returned home from Korea and she quit the phone company and they moved back to Amarillo. In April 1959 their son Montye was born. In 1961 they moved back to Salem, OR where she went back work for Pacific NW Bell as a telephone operator. In October 1962 their son Ronald was born. She worked in various departments retiring from Qwest in 1987.
Norma Jean was a member of Telephone Pioneers, PWM Gervias #118 OES, Tops, OR #813, Salem and was a mall walker (Lancaster Mall).
She is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Trammell; mother, Ruth Tinker; grandparents, Minerva and Wily Tinker; dad, John Tinker; stepmother, Marie Tinker.
She is survived by sons and daughter-in-laws, Montye and Debbie Trammell, Ronald and Sharon Trammell; grandchildren, Brian and Codi Trammell, Mike and Jessica Trammell, Jessica Trammell, and Andrew Trammell; great grandchildren, Connor Trammell, RyLee Trammell, RyLee Holmes, Jaxson Trammell, Preslee Trammell; half brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Jeannie Tinker.
A Funeral Service will be held at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service on Thursday, April 27, 2023 at 11:00am, with visitation starting at 10am. A Graveside Service will follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens at 1:30pm. In lieu of flowers please make donations to American Breast Cancer Society or Willamette Vital Health Hospice.
